Each year there are new advances that seem to change the game for businesses, small and large. Whether the latest trends surface in social media, the marketing department, or in new regulations for the finance department to wrestle, success in the new year means being prepared for the upcoming trends.

In 2019 we’ll see some evolution that is completely new. You’ll also notice that some of the things you’ve already started to master will continue to be important in the upcoming year. Here are some of the trends to keep your eyes on.

Top Trends for Your Business in 2019

  • Employee Social Media Rules. Many companies find that it’s effective to make their own employees brand ambassadors — allowing them to mention the company and its offerings on social media as a way to increase visibility. Whether you opt for this type of program or not, it is important to address what you expect from employees with regard to their social media presence. They all have profiles online and their posts can impact your brand.
  • Welcome Generation Z. The next generation is firmly entering the workforce with its older members just leaving college and starting their careers. For hiring managers, the prospect of having four separate generations on staff at the same time might be intimidating. This new generation takes some of its cues from the Millennials — they also relish their work / life balance and appreciate the ability to work remotely. They’re even better with new technologies, having grown up with smartphones and internet access in classrooms as well as in their personal life. This new generation also wants to be mentored and to learn. They are eager to contribute in a meaningful way. Many members of Generation X and the Baby Boomers who are still in the workforce enjoy mentoring. Developing teams and programs to allow for these mentorship moments can be beneficial to your company’s morale and productivity.

  • Increased Flexibility in Scheduling. More and more employees relish the ability to work on the road, at home or in a coffee shop. They also enjoy being able to set hours that are outside of the traditional 9 to 5. We’ll see even more of this trend as the newest generation enters the workforce.

As the world grows ever more internet-dependent, you’ll notice a trend toward more personalized interactions. Cyber security will also continue to be important, and new advances in Artificial Intelligence will be increasingly useful in your day-to-day business.
